Security Screen Re-Mesh and New Door Rollers, Burleigh Waters

Re-meshing security fly screens in Burleigh Waters.

Security screen re-meshing is one of those jobs that makes a house feel cared for again. This week I was in Burleigh Waters re-meshing the security fly screens on a family home. The mesh behind the security grilles had torn and gone slack over the years, and the sliding screen doors weren’t running smoothly any more.

The security screen re-mesh job in Burleigh Waters

This was stage one of the job. I took the security fly screen windows down, stripped out the old, damaged mesh and fitted new Pureview flyscreen mesh, rolling it in with new spline so it sits tight and flat. I also re-meshed four screen doors and replaced their worn wheels with new Rolltrak carriages and acetal rollers, then adjusted each door so it glides properly again. Stage two is booked in next.

4 tips for looking after your fly screens

  1. Fix small tears early. On the Gold Coast, wind and storms turn a small tear into a big one quickly, and bugs find the gap fast.
  2. Clean the track before blaming the door. A stiff sliding screen door is often just a dirty track. If it’s still hard to slide once the track is clean, the rollers are probably worn.
  3. Security screens can be re-meshed. If the frame and grille are sound, new mesh brings them back without the cost of a new screen.
  4. Choose the right mesh. Pureview is a fine fibreglass mesh that’s easier to see through than standard flyscreen, so you keep your view. Pet mesh is tougher if dogs or cats push on the screens.

Why re-meshing is worth doing

Torn or loose mesh lets mosquitoes and flies in, and a screen door that drags gets forced, which wears the frame and the lock. Re-meshing and new rollers fix both, and the screens look tidy again from inside and out.

Frequently asked questions

Can you re-mesh security screens?

Yes. If the security frame and grille are in good condition, I replace just the flyscreen mesh behind the grille rather than the whole screen.

Do you replace sliding screen door rollers?

Yes. I fit new rollers to suit the door, then adjust the height so the door runs smoothly and locks properly.
