IKEA cabinet assembly can eat a whole weekend, and a cabinet that is slightly out of square never quite closes right. These IKEA cabinets were put together properly: assembled square and solid, with the floors protected while I worked and the packaging cleared away at the end.
5 simple tips for IKEA cabinet assembly
- Protect the floor. Work on drop sheets or flattened boxes so panels and floors don’t get scratched.
- Check the parts first. Lay out panels and hardware before starting so nothing goes missing halfway.
- Keep it square. Measure the diagonals. If they match, the cabinet is square and the doors will line up.
- Don’t over-tighten. Flat-pack board strips easily, so snug is enough.
- Anchor tall units to the wall. Tall cabinets and wardrobes should be secured to the wall with anti-tip fittings. Product Safety Australia warns about toppling furniture, especially around children.
Why get IKEA cabinet assembly done for you?
It saves your weekend, the cabinets end up square and solid, and doors and drawers line up properly. Tall units can be anchored to the wall for safety, and the packaging is cleared away at the end.
